Global information systems are posing great challenges for research in Information Technology.
Faculty members in the department are active in conducting research
at the forefront of their specialties. Many under graduate students in the department
are provided with the opportunity to conduct research under faculty guidance as
part of their degree program. Research is currently being carried out in the fields
of Computer Networking, System Software, Signal & Image Processing, Artificial
Intelligence, NN & Fuzzy systems, Data Mining & Data Warehousing, Compilers,
etc. Students are involved in leading-edge research and development efforts, with
interaction from high-technology corporations.

Sponsored Research Projects in Progress
Title of the Project: “Adaptive Image Contrast Enhancement for Medical Images.”
Principal Investigator : Mrs. Anita R. Shinkar
Co-Investigator, if any : Prof. S.M. Bhagat, Mr. B.C. Bhokse
Funding Agency : BCUD, Pune University
Funding Amount : 1,00,000/-
Project Duration : 2009-2011
Expected date of completion : 30th March 2011
Abstract : The project has to design a novel adaptive method for Image contrast enhancement for Medical Images. The method should combine the global advantages histogram equalization and local advantages of Adaptive histogram equalization. It should have multiscale property. The database of CT scan images, Digital Mammography Images, digital X-ray images and scanned X-ray images will be required. Finding the local statistics is based on two kinds of propagation scheme such as isotropic and anisotropic. The results of this novel method will be compared with histogram equalization, adaptive histogram equalization, a fast method for adaptive histogram equalization. The results also have to be compared with the techniques such as CLAHE, MAHE, as these two techniques also combines advantages of both local and global methods of image enhancement. The comparison is based on time required to give the results, Mean square error, Signal to noise ratio. The qualities of resultant images also get checked by taking the views of radiologist and doctors.
